He may have a bit of self-righteousness, but that doesn't mean he's not human, and he's definitely not a total jerk. If anything, Chrom is more like a quiet, shy, dreamy guy who does nothing but work on his machines for hours. He can get pretty passionate about his work and his inventions, though; so much so that his sister is worried about him. He's not the most talkative or social person in the world, but he's not as cold as he appears to be either.
