While Anna wants to save the day, becoming a princess of sorts through her love for her sister, Catherine wants more of a revolution. She wants to make a difference, and get rid of the monarchs and royalty of the world, going so far as to say that she would give up her own life for her sister, something that she did do in the end.
They both have a desire to save the world, but their views on how they can achieve this differ. They both want a better future for themselves, but they don’t want to change the world for everyone else. The differences in their personalities and the conflict between them drives the story forward and makes it so much more interesting than it would be otherwise.
The film is definitely better than the book in some ways, such as its ability to develop characters and its ability to satisfy viewers for a little while with its main characters and story. However, in other ways it is very true to the book.
