For those of you that aren’t familiar with the “E”-“S”-“T”-“P” personality system, it was developed by Isabel Myers and her mother Katharine Briggs. The system is based on four different personality types, each of which has four letter codes: E, S, T, and P. The letters E and S indicate extroversion and introversion respectively, and the letters T and P indicate sensing and intuition respectively. (I would suggest visiting MBTI.com for a more detailed explanation of each letter’s effect on the four personality types.) The only letters that are not included in this system are F and J which indicate feeling and judging respectively. (Feelings and judgments tend to be the defining characteristics of the other four types.)
The four personality system is such a successful tool because it allows for a clear, easily understood way to classify personality.
