Biggie personality type is ISFJ, so I'm not surprised that you saw him as being more of a mom than a dad. He was always "there" for you, but not in the sense that you'd be having a heart-to-heart with him about your feelings or anything. He was just there to listen and give advice. He was probably very good at that! I never heard that he was abusive, but... well, I don't think it's very likely, but if he was... well, I suppose it would be worse for you, because he was your father.
I think it's very important for kids to have both parents involved in their lives. You should feel loved, protected, and cared for, even if your parents aren't the best at showing it. That said, I'm not sure how much I'd worry about your friends being supportive of your relationship with your dad. Most people only see the parts of parents that are perfect, and that's where they draw their idea of what a good parent should be like. If your friends only know the "perfect" side of your dad, it might be difficult for them to understand why you care so much about him.
