She became despondent when her family was murdered by the Weasley family when she was 17 years old. She turned to the Dark Arts in an attempt to regain her family’s respect, but when that failed, she became a follower of Lord Voldemort. She believed that her future in the Dark Arts would be greater than in the Light, and she was willing to do anything to reach her goal.
When Bellatrix found out that the Dark Lord had planned for her to be killed, she was devastated. She snuck past the Death Eaters in order to find her family in the Forest of Dean, where she intended to kill them all. When she saw her cousin Merope’s daughter, Delphini, she saw a chance to get revenge for her family’s death by killing the girl, who was very much like her.
This was one of the many reasons why she became a Death Eater.
