There are many other types of people who would make fun of you if they knew you were typing your thoughts out loud by hand. They may be total strangers or friends, but the point is that they see you doing something different than they do. They see you somehow "playing by your own rules," even though you're simply taking the time to write what you need to say. Even so, some people don't believe in typing -- they write letters, emails, and texts.
The problem with typing on a keyboard is that you have to go through a lot of words to get to the ones you want to use. You have to scroll tall words down and then left and right through more words before you find it. It's a hassle -- a lot of wasted effort just to find a single word.
