    Alain Rey, born August 30, 1928 in Pont-du-Château in the Puy-de-Dôme and died October 28, 2020 in Paris, is a French linguist and lexicographer. He was the chief editor of the publications of Le Robert until his death.

    Alain Rey is an observer of the evolution of the French language. Like Robert, he embodies a modern French language [Notes 1], not hesitating to include verlan or regionalisms in his dictionaries [1]. Although he was not an academic, he nevertheless played a major role in the development of the terminology, lexicology, history of vocabulary, historical semantics and cultural history of dictionaries.
