Mick Garvey is an Australian writer, who lives in Sydney. His first novel, "The Secret Island", was published by Harper Collins in 2001.
His works have been translated into over twenty-five languages, including Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, French, German, Polish, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Russian, Swedish, Czech, Hungarian and Chinese. Garvey is the recipient of the Children's Book Council of Australia's Grand Prix for Literature for "The Secret Island" in 2001. He has also won the Storylines for Children's Literature Award for "The Secret Island". He was shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Prize for Literary Excellence in 2006.
Garvey has taught creative writing at the University of NSW and at various schools around Sydney. He is also a fiction writing fellow at the University of Technology, Sydney.
He is a media member of the Australian Writers' Guild.
