L personality type is ISTP, I am an ISTP. I’m not sure if this is the same type as the ISTP in the book – I’m not sure that there are that many in the world, but the ISTPs I know are perfectly reasonable and reasonable people.
I found this book to be a very useful tool for those wanting to improve their skills at empathy and developing their personality type. It is based on a simple premise which is that we are all different and it is impossible to assume we understand all people – this is especially true of those on the extremes of the personality spectrum.
There are many similar books, including ones by various authors, but this book has some nice touches which other books don’t. For example, one of the exercises is to think about how you feel about someone who acts like a ‘type’. If you are an ISTP and you’ve just read about a person who seems very logical, you are invited to think about how you would actually feel in the situation.
This results in a very interesting exercise which involves thinking about how you would actually feel in such a situation.
