She was a graduate student at the University of Houston, working with Professor Armand Spitzer on a project to find out how liquid water interacts with Planck radiation, the ultra-low heat photons associated with the cosmic microwave background.
The publication of her thesis in 1999 was somewhat delayed, so she took a job with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), working on high-resolution images from the Galileo mission. She was also an intern at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York, working on climate models.
At JPL she worked at JPL’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Sciences, and on climatic data from the Galileo mission. She joined the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in 2002, where she conducted field research.
