First, the structure of the book is good. It’s not just a collection of anecdotes. The lessons are well-defined, for the most part, and they are simple to grasp without being simplistic. Sinek’s style is also very easy to read. There are no in-depth psychological insights or in-depth sociological or philosophical studies in this book. It’s just a really good story about a really good leader.
Second, leadership is not about being perfect. We don’t have to be perfect, in fact, we are much better off learning from the people who are getting stuff done. Leaders are made, not born. What leaders do is learn from others, and learn to communicate what they have learned.
We don’t need to be perfect to be leaders. We just need to be decent. That’s pretty much it. That’s pretty much why I love the book so much.
