So I'll be the first to admit that judging a book by its cover is a terrible idea. And it's not just a terrible idea, it's downright dangerous to yourself, since you might buy a book and then find it's not quite right for you.
But here's a different kind of story.
I was at a book group meeting recently where I met a woman who was reading Heidi Cooley's new novel, The Price of Salt. I'd heard about the book and had wanted to read it, but I was intimidated by its size and the fact that it was written in verse. That said, I was going to borrow it from the library and then read it.
But after meeting the woman at the meeting and hearing how she'd been drawn to the book, I decided to give it a try. I bought the book at the library and read it immediately. After finishing it, I decided that I needed more Cooley and went out and bought (at full price) all her other novels.
