I’m so glad to have found this site. I grew up with the idea that ISTJs were the “good” ones and the INFJs were the “bad” ones, and for the most part I agree with that. But, I don’t think it is as simple as that.
I think that the differences between the two personality types are not as great as some make them out to be. Yes, there are often differences in the way that we act and think, but for the most part, ISTJs and INFJs are both extremely caring and are more likely to take the time to help others than not.
The main difference between the two types is in the things that we wish to accomplish and in the nature of our work. INFJs see their work as a way to help other people, while ISTJs see their work as a means to an end.
