    Jean Clottes, born on July 8, 1933 in Espéraza in the Aude, is a French prehistorian, specialist of the Upper Paleolithic and parietal art.

    Jean Clottes did his secondary studies at the lycée in Carcassonne from 1944 to 1950 and his higher studies at the Faculty of Letters in Toulouse from 1950 to 1957 [1]. After having been a junior English teacher at the lycée of Foix [2], he began prehistory studies. His thesis will focus on the dolmens of the Lot. Doctor of Arts and Humanities since 1975, he was then the director of Prehistoric Antiquities for the Midi-Pyrénées region (from January 1, 1971). Former General Curator of Heritage at the Ministry of Culture where he was a recognized scientific advisor on prehistoric art.
