Tex Watson was the leader of the "Texas Guzik" gang, and the third most wanted criminal in Texas. During his criminal career, he committed numerous armed robberies and murders.
Watson was arrested in July 1955 for stealing $35,000 worth of turkeys from a truck. He and four other men were later convicted and sentenced to life in prison and were sent to the Huntsville Unit. On their way to prison, Watson and his gang arrived at a gas station and robbed the owner, killing him and his son with a pistol and shotgun respectively.
In 1959, Watson was transferred to the Kilby Prison Farm for his own safety, but he was able to escape with three other inmates. After escaping, Watson was recaptured and sent back to Kilby Prison Farm. He was killed by a guard in an escape attempt on July 19, 1960.
In June 1961, his body was discovered by a guard at the Huntsville Unit and Watson was buried in a shallow grave in the prison cemetery. The guard was injured and hospitalized for his wounds.

The next night, Watson traveled to Los Feliz, Los Angeles, and participated in the murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, as part of Manson's "Helter Skelter" vision. Watson was found guilty of murder and imprisoned in 1971.
