Ramón Mercader personality type is ISTJ, and he is a larger than life character whose very presence inspires both awe and terror. He is a Spaniard who was born in Madrid in 1894. He grew up in a middle class family and was very bright and studious. At age 15, he was already the top student in his class and he entered the Jesuit College at age 17. After graduating with very good grades, he entered the University of Madrid and graduated in 1914 with a degree in law. The University of Madrid was a little more lax than the Jesuit College and it wasn't uncommon for students to engage in extracurricular activities such as boxing and fencing. Mercader was no exception and he was a champion fencer. He also boxed and won many important tournaments. Despite this physical prowess, he never lost sight of his true goal: to become a lawyer.
At approximately age 20, he entered the Jesuit Seminary in Madrid and was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1917. He quickly rose in the ranks and was assigned to teach at a Jesuit College in Segovia. He was assigned to teach chemistry and physics and he excelled at both subjects. He also participated in the mission work of his order, which included evangelization work among the poor.
