Sonny and his brother, Frank, were the only two to enter and win a drumming contest in junior high, where they competed against many bands from other schools.
Sonny also enjoyed football as a kid. He was a 3 year starter as a middle linebacker at Massasoit High School. In his senior year he had 56 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery. He also played basketball and baseball. He was a member of the Massasoit High School Hall of Fame.
Sonny is the youngest of 4 children. His dad, Joe Franzese, was a minor league baseball player and his mom, Maryann "Mannie" Franzese, was a PTA mom at Massasoit High School. Sonny's oldest brother, Frank, has been a drummer/percussionist for many years. His youngest brother Joe has been a cop.
