Hamtaro is a very good friend to all of the other characters, especially to his "brother" Hige. He is also very respectful to his parents, who have been voiced by Terri Hawkes and David Kaye.
He also can be a bit gullible, but he usually knows when something is not right, such as when he realizes that Jiji's "happiness" powder doesn't make him happy, or when he realizes that King-Man is a bad guy.

Hamtaro, known in Japan as Trotting Hamtaro, is a Japanese manga and storybook series created and illustrated by Ritsuko Kawai about a hamster. The manga was serialized in Shogakukan's "Second Grade" magazine in April 1997; more Hamtaro stories would later be added into the other grade-level magazines, as well as in Ciao. The series focuses on a hamster named Hamtaro, who has a variety of adventures with other hamsters known as the "Ham-Hams". Viz Media published the manga adaptations and storybooks in English. Multiple anime adaptations were produced by TMS Entertainment and aired on TV Tokyo. The first series was dubbed in English by The Ocean Group.
