She grew up watching her father pitch for the Yankees, often challenging him in games of catch. This has turned into something of a rivalry between Bonnie Wheeler and her father. Her love of baseball also gave her an interest in writing about it.
Her love of writing led her to writing sports stories for the New York Daily News in high school.
