I have a problem with characters in a story (either novels or movies) who aren’t true to their type. I also have a problem with characters who are very similar to their type and I have a problem with characters who are very similar to their type and there’s no subtle distinction between them. When I read these types, I immediately get annoyed and begin to think about how to write a story in which the characters are more than carbon copies of one another. It’s not even that the characters have to be like each other, they just have to be somewhat similar to each other. I’m not saying they can’t be different, but sometimes it’s very hard to tell the difference between two characters when they’re both ENFP.
One of the things that made this story so interesting and so different from other stories is that the characters had very different personalities, yet they still had very similar personalities. The author was able to create an entire world with different characteristics to her characters, yet it was still relatively easy for me to tell them apart.
