I can't say with any degree of certainty what you're meant to do. If you're in the military you're probably better off in the ground forces or some kind of special operations unit where you can put your skills to use. If you're not, then your best bet might be to find something that you enjoy doing and get paid for it. It's probably good to have a degree in some technical field so you can get a job in manufacturing or welding. Once you get a job, get a second job where you can earn some extra cash. This will help offset your expenses so you can focus on your goal for the next 6-10 years.
This has been a long post, but after all that I've said, I'm not 100% convinced that I'm right about this idea. On the one hand, the idea of earning income by writing appeals to me.
