The word "introvert" has a similar meaning to "introverted", as individuals who are introverts are likely to be less extroverted than individuals who are extroverts.

Psychologist Carl Jung considered introversion and extraversion to be two of the four methods of psychological type, along with sensing and intuition. Jung proposed that extroverts use intuition and introverts use introversion. The other two types are sensing and thinking.

Introverts have more energy available for activities when they are alone, and less available when they are with people. Introverts may become depressed when they spend too much time with people. Introverts tend to be more sensitive to their environment and the feelings of others. They are generally more creative than extroverts, who tend to be more decisive and assertive.

Introversion is not the same as shyness, introversion is a preference for time alone over time in social situations. Everyone experiences social anxiety from time to time. Those who are shy may feel anxious in social situations.

P-bodies, or processing bodies are distinct foci formed by phase separation within the cytoplasm of the eukaryotic cell consisting of many enzymes involved in mRNA turnover. P-bodies are highly conserved structures and have been observed in somatic cells originating from vertebrates and invertebrates, plants and yeast. To date, P-bodies have been demonstrated to play fundamental roles in general mRNA decay, nonsense-mediated mRNA decay, adenylate-uridylate-rich element mediated mRNA decay, and microRNA induced mRNA silencing. Not all mRNAs which enter P-bodies are degraded, as it has been demonstrated that some mRNAs can exit P-bodies and re-initiate translation. Purification and sequencing of the mRNA from purified processing bodies showed that these mRNAs are largely translationally repressed upstream of translation initiation and are protected from 5' mRNA decay.
