Artie Lange personality type is ESTP, and that means he is a bit of a loner, and sometimes (but not often) is a bit reckless. He likes to work alone, and he's reluctant to form friendships with others for fear of being hurt. Sometimes he can be a bit impulsive, but he's actually quite aware of what he's doing. He's another example of the type of person who is lucky enough to make it into the show, but who is written as a joke.
That said, I do like Artie. He's a sweet guy, and he really seems to really want to be there. He's also very quotable. One of his best lines is: "In the dictionary under 'Tough' there is a picture of me." He's a solid character, and I think he'd do fine on the show.
I don't think this should be a big deal. I mean, I think he'd be great on the show, but I don't think it would be a good idea to not recast him because he has a "difficult" personality. We've seen a lot of those on the show before, and they've never been hard to write for.
