Story
Arthas Menethil was born on March 30, 2421[6] in the kingdom of Lordaeron.[3][7] As a young child, he was trained to be a paladin of the Silver Hand by Uther the Lightbringer. He also met and befriended Tethers, a young dwarf who later became a loyal soldier of the Scourge. Uther, impressed with Arthas' intellect and determination, sent him to the town of Stratholme, where he would train in the ways of the Scourge alongside Tethers.[8]
In 2460, Uther was killed by the Lich King, and Arthas became the new Lich King,[9] believing that it was his destiny. He took up the title of "Defiler" in honor of Uther's sacrifice, and continued to use the rune of Anub'arak, which had been carved into his armor. He launched an invasion of Northrend with the Scourge, believing that they would prove victorious and bring order to the world.
