Rix personality type is ISFP, so it's not too surprising that he's a loner, with no close friends. He was recruited by Knight Gamma, the mission specialist team that was put together to embark upon the most dangerous missions in the galaxy. He was the only ISFP on the team.
When his ship is hit by a missile and begins to break up, Knight Gamma is pulled into the nearest star, a red giant. Rix warns everyone to evacuate. When the rest of the team refuses to leave, he destroys the ship and jumps into the star.
The team follows, but Rix is killed when he is sucked into the star's core. One of Knight Gamma's remaining members, Esplin, blames himself for Rix's death. When the team's shuttle is shot down, he uses his piloting skills to get them to safety.
