The Ghostbusters were hiring a new receptionist and Janine Melnitz initially turned them down because of her fear of the paranormal. However, after seeing a ghost for herself, she decided to join the team. She was given the team's Ecto-1 as her car.
However, she was often too busy working on the technical aspects of the Ghostbusters' equipment to help investigate cases. Despite her best efforts, she would also make errors that would lead to the capture and death of ghosts.
She was, however, a very competent engineer in her own right, creating advanced equipment such as the Proton Pack and the containment unit for Slimer.
