My personal theory is that Jung created the MBTI® as a way of categorizing people without actually knowing them. He took different traits that he observed in his patients and combined them into a pseudo-science to create a conclusive system. It is apparent that he never did extensive research of his own. He relied on the writings of others and his own imagination to create a system that would allow him to classify people in a manner that he found convenient. Remember, Jung worked in a university where he was surrounded by people who had spent their entire lives studying his work. It's no wonder that he would make all kinds of mistakes. He was not an unbiased observer.
