Amick was born on May 26, 1974 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Jay and Donna Amick. She has two older brothers, Todd and Ryan. Her childhood nickname was "Stick." She is of English, Irish, German, and distant Dutch and Native American ancestry. She attended Eau Claire Memorial High School, where she competed in the high jump and the 100 meter hurdles.
Amick worked as an aerobics instructor to earn money for college. During her first semester at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, she took a part-time job in the film department at a local theater, where she met director David Greenbaum. Greenbaum hired her as a production assistant, and she eventually became his personal assistant. In the early 1990s, Greenbaum introduced her to his brother Zak, who was a casting director for MTM Productions. Greenbaum suggested Amick audition for a role in the series "Twin Peaks", which Zak was casting. Amick was cast in the role of Laura Palmer's best friend Maddy Ferguson in the series' pilot episode – which also featured several other actors from "Twin Peaks".
Mädchen Elaina Amick born December 12, 1970) is an American actress. She is known for her starring role as Shelly Johnson on the cult television series Twin Peaks (1990–1991), its prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) and its revival television series Twin Peaks: The Return (2017). She was also a series regular on Central Park West (1995–1996), Freddie (2005–2006), and Witches of East End (2013–2014). In film, she had starring roles in Sleepwalkers (1992) and Dream Lover (1993). She currently portrays Alice Cooper on The CW's drama television series Riverdale (2017–present).
