    The Zajacs were originally from Sweden, and most of them still speak their native language. The family moved to Montreal, Canada in the 1950s, and the town where they settled became Scottie’s hometown. He then attended Wagner College, a small liberal arts college near Staten Island, New York, where he played hockey for four years. He graduated in 1988 and became a certified commercial pilot for six years.

    The Zajacs returned to Montreal in 1992 and have resided there since. Scottie was a member of the Montreal Junior Canadiens, a AAA hockey team. He was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 1991 but did not play in the NHL until 1995. In 1996, he was traded to the New Jersey Devils, and he played there until 1999. He was then signed by the Atlanta Thrashers, and has played there since 2000. He was traded to the Devils again in 2003, and he played there until 2009. In 2010, he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent.

    Zajac married his wife, Donna, in November 1999 and has two children: Stephanie and Joseph.
