He is described to be a tall and lanky boy with red hair and freckles. He wears his black dress robes (something he is known for, due to his obsessive behaviour). He also wears a silver or gold earring. He also is known to have a scar on his right cheek and an old injury to his left hand, which has been mended.
Sirius's association with Harry Potter began after Harry was attacked by Peter Pettigrew, who was disguised as a rat named Scabbers, and when Sirius was mentioned by name, a message about him being wanted for murder came up on the fireplace. When he was found out to be innocent, Sirius came to the rescue when Snape killed Dumbledore. He was later captured by the Ministry of Magic, but escaped thanks to his friends. After he was captured again in the end of the book and during the movie, he went to Azkaban for two years for his alleged crimes against James and Lily Potter.
