James Potter personality type is ESFP, but something in the way he was raised, by his mother and father, made him a very shy and introverted child. His father was the extrovert and most responsible of the two, and it was his mother who took care of the home.

In Harry Potter, we see Harry's extroversion mostly in his lack of social skills. He is extremely awkward; his first Quidditch game was disastrous (and in hindsight, should have been a disaster), and his first year at Hogwarts was filled with social blunders. He tends to take the issue of how to connect to other people upon himself. He is extremely frustrated that he cannot make friends, and takes it out on others (usually the Slytherins).
Harry is also shy around girls – Hermione is the only one he shows more than a passing interest in. He wants to be her friend, but he never quite knows how to do it. And when he does make friends, like with Ron and Hermione (and later with Dean), he tends to miss his old friends from school, like Neville Longbottom.
