On the night of the attack, Berkin’s cell phone was found in his pocket with a call to Berkin’s sister from the police. The police said he made the call to let her know what was going on. The cell phone records also show that someone called him for assistance shortly after the attack, but his sister was not able to reach him on the phone.
Berkin has been in and out of hospitals since the attack, most recently in the intensive care unit at the Haseki hospital. He has been a patient there since Sunday.
Although he is still in a coma and unable to speak, he is able to blink his eyes.
His health is also improving, according to his doctors. He has begun eating solid foods again, though family members are not allowed to eat with him.
Berkin has been getting treatment in a coma since shortly after the attack. His mother, father and sister were all at his bedside.
