He became withdrawn and his parents, who never could understand him, decided to send him to live with his grandparents. His grandparents were harsh, hard-hearted people who treated him in a highly degrading fashion.
The experience with his grandparents turned his thinking into a state of depression. But he was not aware of how depressed he really was. He was not able to understand why he felt so empty inside.
