The fact that this type is associated with the two major political parties of the United States has led some to use the term "party president" to refer to the ESTP personality type. The term "party president" is used by Alfred Adler and by Carl Jung, both of whom had an interest in understanding human motivation. Adler used the term to refer to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and to his New Deal policies which were "a kind of bold, unexpected, unannounced answer to the party president's need". Jung referred to Adolf Hitler as a party president who sought to achieve "the unity of all Germans" through "the party pope" and who did so in a way that was "a natural development of the unconscious of the party president".
