I've also never met a single ISTP who's had an interest in Jungian psychology and typology. Which is ok, because the ISTP has no interest in the world beyond the physical, and the intellectual world of types and archetypes is far too abstract for them.
The ISTP sees the human mind as a simple machine, whose function can be understood in terms of logic and probability rules, not as a complicated and mysterious system of patterns whose nature defies understanding. They don't believe that people are born with inherent tendencies or instincts, or that their behaviour is defined by some innate personality type. For an ISTP, people are just people, and it's up to them to make sense of their own lives.
The ISTP may be driven to pursue knowledge for its own sake, but like the rationalist, the ISTP does not allow it to cloud his judgement or distort his perception of reality. The ISTP does not believe that people have hidden complexes that can be exposed and cured – there is no "inner" or "outer" self, no underlying unconscious motives, no "shadow.
