I think what is happening in this book is that her friends are trying to get her to change her personality type from INFJ to INFP. This book is a satire of today's society. The INFJ is being mocked for being too "introverted" and "quiet." But in real life, INFJs are the ones who are always trying to change themselves to be more "extroverted" and "social" and "friendly.
