Henry Ernest Dudeney (10 April 1857 - 24 April 1930) was a British designer of numerical and logic puzzles. He is one of the best known puzzle designers in his country. He was the originator of the Dudeney numbers and the first known formulation of the three houses puzzle. He was one of the first to propose two-dimensional logic puzzles known as "Smith-Jones-Robinson", where several characters have several attributes, partially quoted in the statement. We owe him the first demonstration of the paradox of the map in four colors (four colors are enough to visually dissociate the regions, each region having a given color).
