Both of them hit off quickly and bonded over their interest on Mythical Pokémon, so they decided to explore Ilex Forest after witnessing the sight of a Celebi. Although they initially got terrified by some wild Pokémon, they didn't give up and reached the shrine, but due to some Sunflora, they chose to part ways and promised to meet each other the next day.
Unfortunately, Horace fell ill the other day, thus he was unable to fulfill his promise with Goh. By the time he recovered, Goh had already returned to Kanto. As an apology, Horace left a letter explaining his absence at the gap of the shrine, a year after Goh left.
Two years later, Horace, now a Trainer with a Chikorita as his partner, finally was able to reunite with Goh, who was visiting Johto and had read his letter. Goh accepted Horace's apology and the two
