Hyderabad is an old and important metropolis in the southern part of the Republic of India.
It is the capital city of the state of Telangana, which prior to 2014, was part of Andhra Pradesh (for which too, it served as the capital for the previously unified state).
Hyderabad was founded in the year 1591 CE and is well-known for its historical monuments, heritage and cuisine. It's greater metropolitan area as of 2011, had a total population of around 9.7 million people (approximate).
Initially, it served as the capital of the Golconda Sultanate and after briefly being a Mughal province, it gained autonomy under the Nizam of Hyderabad who served as its ruler till 1948, when it was annexed to the then newly-independent India.
