What is the personality type of Budai? Which MBTI personality type best fits? Personality type for Budai from Buddhism and what is the personality traits.
Budai personality type is ESFJ, so they will be extra sensitive to criticism and will be more prone to emotional outbursts.
As an ENFJ, I am not at all emotional. I am very calm, calculated and rational. It was really difficult for me to understand why I was so sensitive and quickly overreacted when I saw my mother cry. But I was wrong. I only saw her cry when I was angry with her, or when she was feeling bad about herself, or when I had done something that she didn’t like (which I now knew was not true). It took me a long time to understand that there are many situations, and people, where people cry for all kinds of reasons. And then it took even longer to accept that my mother wasn’t the only one who cried a lot. Then I began to see that I, too, had done things that made my mother cry.
I cried when I did not like what she said.
I cried when she did not cook the way I wanted her to.
I cried when she was late coming home.
I cried when she did not give me the attention that I needed.
Budai was a semi-historical Chinese monk who is often identified with and venerated as Maitreya Buddha in Chan Buddhism. With the spread of Chan Buddhism, he also came to be venerated in Vietnam, Korea, and Japan. He is said to have lived around the 10th century in the Wuyue kingdom. His name literally means "cloth sack" and refers to the bag that he is conventionally depicted as carrying as he wanders aimlessly. His jolly nature, humorous personality, and eccentric lifestyle distinguish him from most Buddhist masters or figures. He is almost always shown smiling or laughing, hence his nickname in Chinese, the "Laughing Buddha". As he is traditionally depicted as overweight, he is also referred to as the "Fat Buddha", especially in the Western world.
