He is the son of John Fletcher, a navigator, and later Masamoto Takeshi's foster son as well as Masamoto Yamato's adoptive brother for the rest of the series. He was born in England in 1599; his younger sister, Jess, would be born three years later. At some point, Jack's mother died of pneumonia, and John was left to care for Jack and Jess.
