As a child, he suffered from the trauma of his mother's death, and was left with a sense of helplessness. He was also bullied by the other children due to his albino-like appearance, and as a result, he developed a rather cynical and pessimistic personality. After his father's funeral, he was taken in by a group of crusaders, who trained him in martial arts and gave him the name Baji. He received his name from the fact that he was able to defeat all of the students at the school in a fight, which earned him their respect. Baji joined the Tokyo Revengers to seek vengeance against the people who killed his father, and to protect those he cares about.
