In our normal everyday lives, we use all four of our Myers-Briggs® functions. There are times when it's more comfortable to use one function over another. This is especially true when we're dealing with people, since our introverted intuition (Ni) functions are usually more sensitive than our extroverted sensing (Se). It is harder for us to know how to behave and to respond as we'd like to when we're dealing with people, since our feeling function (Fi) is more suited for dealing with people than our thinking function (Te).
Many Myers-Briggs® personality types have a tendency to lean toward one function over the others. For example, I tend to lean toward my introverted intuition (Ni) over my extroverted sensing (Se) and my extroverted feeling (Fe). It's most difficult for me to deal with people when I don't have as much access to my thinking function (Te).
