Akuray Kimsa personality type is ISTJ, the daughter of a South Korean father and an American mother, who had been raised in Uganda, where she worked as a missionary. She was raised as a devout Christian, and as a child, she also sang in church choirs. Kimsa attended a Bible college in South Korea for 2 years before moving to the United States for her undergraduate education at the University of Southern California.
In 2003, Kimsa participated in the "Idol" competition, the 3rd season of "Popstars". She started off as the runner-up to the winner, MN9's Kim Hyun-joong, and later joined the group as a vocalist.
In 2005, Kimsa left the group and began pursuing a career in music. On October 5 of that year, she released her first single "The Moon is Falling". The song was co-written by Kimsa's then boyfriend, Andrew Garcia.
In 2006, Kimsa began working with DJ Ravi on his sublabel "RVNG Intl." She released the single "Miracle" on June 10, 2007. In 2008, she signed with Universal Republic Records and released her first major label single "It Must Be Love" in February.
