Nori Brandyfoot was born to a poor noble family as the only daughter of a baron in the Kingdom of Tarkir. Her mother died in childbirth, and her father remarried. Soon after, her stepmother died in childbirth as well, leaving Nori an only child. When Nori turned four, her father remarried again and this time Nori’s stepmother was the one who gave birth to her. This new stepmother was very strict, which made Nori’s father very unhappy.
Nori’s childhood was a lonely one. She was not close to her stepmother and as such did not learn how to deal with her emotions well. As a result, she developed very strong feelings for her father, which were often not reciprocated. Because of this she felt that she had no one to turn to for help and so started to develop a negative view of everyone around her.
When Nori turned seven, she decided to run away from home. Her stepmother caught her and sent her to live with her new stepmother.
