The Myers and Briggs Foundation has identified 3 main types of personality. I have written before about the types based on Jungian psychoanalysis. There are three big categories: Sensing, Intuition and Thinking (S, N, T), but their personality test also includes a fourth type, which they call Feeling (Fi).
I think the Myers-Briggs test is a good way to categorise people, but I don’t agree with the idea that it is a good way to categorise personality styles. It’s not as if one type is better than another. For example, I believe that being a type that is more interested in order and structure (N) is not better than being a type that is more interested in freedom and creativity (T). It’s just different.
The Myers-Briggs test itself is not about categorising personality styles at all. It is a tool for describing how people think in general. It is not a test for identifying your strengths or weaknesses in particular situations.
