Salome personality type is ISFJ, but I don't know the details of that. But I thought that was a good point. It's hard to believe that Silas would be so cruel to his own child, but I guess with regards to ISFJ, I think this is possible. (I'm not an ISFJ though....)
And in my headcanon, it seems like Silas would want this to happen because he's hoping to gain some sort of power over his son. So I think it's possible that he engineered this scenario so that he could get closer to his son. I mean, he created his own son out of his own flesh. And he did all that for him - to give him something to live for. And also to subjugate him. I guess it could have been more of a loving father/son relationship, but Silas is not a good parent, so I guess it's understandable.
I do like the idea of the man having powers, though! It's interesting to think about what sort of powers this man might have.
And also, if his son is killed, then that means there's nothing left for Silas really.
