Adrien Flood was an Irishman who, for a short while, grew up at an orphanage in Cork, where he had been left when he was an infant. At the age of eight, Adrien escaped and stowed away on a ship bound for the West Indies, which was soon attacked by Kumi Berko's pirates. Recruited into Kumi's crew, Adrien earned his place as a deckhand and later a spy, using his nimbleness and small size to get into hard-to-reach places, allowing him to procure valuable information. As Adrien grew older, a more obnoxious personality began to emerge. Sarcastic and impertinent, he started to display a sadistic streak and was put to work as a torturer and a disciplinarian. In 2013 under the name of the Cutthroat, his genetic memories were used as an Animi Avatar by the Abstergo Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Templar company Abstergo Industries, to influence the general public via the Animus game console.
