Nogitsune (人造人間, Nōgitsunē?) are fictional beings in Japanese folklore that possess the power to possess humans, usually adolescents, and use them to commit crimes or for their amusement.
In folklore, the term "Nogitsune" (人造人間) literally means "manufactured human being" or "man-made human". "Nogitsune" is derived from the words "nō", meaning "being" or "human", and "gitsune", which refers to the fox. The word is spelled with the kanji character "人" (人) meaning "person" or "human being" and "造" (造) meaning "to make". Thus, literally, the word means "to create a human being".
The word is also sometimes used to refer to the fox itself, which is usually referred to as "Nogitsune no kitsune" (人造狐).
