How did you get started in your career?
My career has been a bit of a rollercoaster: I considered becoming a veterinarian at one point, and end up switching to psychology as a psychoanalyst. I got my master's degree in clinical psychology and then my doctorate in clinical psychology with a specialization in personality disorders and psychotherapy. After that, I worked as a counselor for three years, before becoming a writer and editor.
What inspired you to become an author?
My mother was the biggest fan of Steven Pressfield's The War of Art when it came out in 2001. I read it in high school, and I was hooked. Then I read The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, which also helped me overcome writer's block. When I started writing professionally, I wanted my first book to be on the subject of overcoming procrastination and anxiety.
